announces sportsmanship awards

The Wise County Chamber of Commerce announced recently the winners of the
1999-2000 Good Sportsmanship Award for each sport at the high schools in the county.

The award is given to high school athletes who are competent in their sport while displaying good sportsmanship.

The program was initiated more than two decades ago as a means of giving recrognition to one athlete in each sport who has continuously portrayed sportsmanlike qualities.

The awards were presented at the respecitve schools athlete banquets and awards day programs.

Presenters were members of the organization's board of directors: Louise Henegar, Appalachia; Vanessa Perry, Coeburn; Hank Hankins III, J.I. Burton High; Ed Sutphin, J.J. Kelly; Linda Dotson, Pound; Lisa Kelly, Powell Valley; and Richard Hughes, St. Paul.
